Cross-state controversy over the lowering of a child sex crime suspect’s bond.
72-year-old Kermit Booth was the suspect of an investigation into alleged solicitation of a minor for sexual intercourse in Flagler County, Florida. A warrant was put out on him last month, and his bond was set at $500,000.
He was then arrested a few days later in Macon County, North Carolina, where a judge set his bond at just $35,000.
Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly in a Facebook post criticized the lowering of the previously set bond.
Macon County Sheriff Brent Holbrooks responded in a Facebook video post, stating that many people flee to North Carolina, as it is the only state where people with certain charges maintain the right to bond.
A Florida governor’s warrant would now be required to re-arrest Booth on no bond, where he would then await extradition in jail.
