Taco Bell made some significant cuts to its menu in 2020, and now, the company is announcing that it will be testing a new Chalupa shell.
Taco lovers went crazy when they were introduced to the Naked Chicken Chalupa. However, Taco Bell just announced that it would be trying out a plant-based shell alternative.
Customers will be able to order the limited-time Naked Chalupa with a Crispy Plant-Based Shell. It is a meat-free version of its Naked Chicken Chalupa filled with lettuce, cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, and avocado ranch sauce.
“At Taco Bell, we’re pushing the limits of what people have known vegetarian and vegan items to look like within the quick-service restaurant industry,” Missy Schaaphok, Senior Manager of Global Nutrition and Sustainability at Taco Bell, told VegNews. “No matter one’s lifestyle, everyone should have access to delicious and crave-able food, whether that’s in the shape of our iconic Chalupa shell or in a way that we have yet to introduce.”
If you’re vegan, you can order it without choosing the dairy cheese and ranch sauce by purchasing it for $3.49 plus tax.
This item is available until June 27 or until supplies last at a location in Irvine, California.
In May, Taco Bell announced that a favorite item was leaving its menu.
Upon returning to the menu earlier this year, Taco Bell’s adored Quesalupa would only make a limited-time appearance. A spokesperson for the fast-food chain revealed that the cheese-stuffed chalupa would be going off the menu in May.
“Fans are encouraged to satisfy their Quesalupa craving before it leaves Taco Bell’s menu later this month,” the statement read.
The last time Taco Bell fans saw the Quesalupa on the menu would have been in 2016. In March of 2021, it was announced that Taco Bell would officially bring the item back.
The Quesalupa features a chalupa shell with melted pepper jack and mozzarella cheese. In addition to the cheesy taste, the taco shell includes lettuce, beef, tomatoes, sour cream, and of course, more cheese.
However, if you are a vegetarian, you can swap out the beef for black beans. Taco lovers were able to purchase the $2.99 item nationwide. While the item itself costs just $2.99, fans can buy a Quesalupa meal for $6.99, including two tacos and a large drink.
