The Padres lost their second game in a row to the Cardinals on Friday night, as Jackson Merrill's leadoff single in the 4th inning was the only hit St. Louis allowed. With the game scoreless and the bases loaded with one out in the 6th inning, JJ Wetherholt singled to right field. As Fernando Tatis Jr. charged the ball and tried to scoop it up to make a throw home, the ball rolled under his glove and all the way to the wall, allowing all three runners and Wetherholt to score, giving the Cardinals a 4-0 lead. The Cardinals tacked on two more runs in the 6th but the 4-run play would be all the offense the Cardinals would need, as the Padres bats went ice cold. San Diego will regroup and try to get back in the win column on Saturday with Randy Vasquez drawing the start.
