Following a devastating fire that destroyed large parts of the 850-year-old Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, celebrities took to social media to show their support for the city of light’s great loss.
Music icon Cher tweeted, "Devastation & Heartbreak…French are strong,& America & The World Will Never Forget Those with The Spirit Of La Marseillaise.”
Former President Barack Obama shared a personal family picture at the Cathedral. He posted, “It’s in our nature to mourn when we see history lost – but it’s also in our nature to rebuild for tomorrow, as strong as we can.”

Actor Rob Lowe reminisced on having had the opportunity to visit the iconic church. “I’m heartbroken for Paris, for France, for us all, everywhere. My life is better for having seen its splendor. #notredame.”
Singer Camila Cabello also recalled her visit to the site. “...I’ll never forget walking in the first time in Paris and being in awe of the beauty of it.”
And Glenn Close went on to say, “Until this moment, I didn’t realize how much it has meant to me, knowing it was there, seemingly indestructible...” and, “...May Notre Dame find healing, over the coming years. May we all experience that healing together. “
French President Emmanuel Macron is vowing to rebuild the cathedral and local moguls and companies have so far donated nearly $700 million dollars to the efforts.
