Guacamole Cheese Is a Real Thing

Move over avocado toast, there’s a new use for everyone’s favorite fruit (yes avocados are fruit). Guacamole Cheese is a real thing and, while it probably won’t take off among the hipster millennial set in the same way, it is coming to grocery stores in time for Cinco de Mayo. The cheese, while definitely gimmicky, isn’t just some gouda with a bit of green food coloring.

According to Today, who spoke with Meghan Flynn, a dietician at the Fresh Market stores which will carry the stuff, guacamole cheese is “a creamy, Gouda-style, hard cheese that blends real avocados with lime juice, chili, tomato, onion and garlic.” It’s basically everything you’d find on a plate of nachos minus the chips.

The green gouda comes from Dairy Dairy of Holland as part of its Amanti line. Fans of cheese mashups should note that guacamole is actually only one of the unique flavors that are part of that line. You can also get both green and red pesto cheeses, a chili cheese and a wheel made with cumin.

So how can you get it? Well, as noted up above, the guac cheese will be available at The Fresh Market, which, if you aren’t familiar with it, is a North Carolina-based supermarket chain that extends to 22 states throughout the Northeast, Southeast and Midwest.

What do you think? Are you going to run out and buy a block or maybe a whole wheel? Or would you rather keep your avocados and cheese separate, as nature intended.
