A mom is hoping to raise awareness about making parks more accessible for special needs kids by sharing a video of her five-year-old daughter stopped in her tracks at a park while using her walker.
Danielle Zukoski’s daughter Iris has cerebral palsy as well as a condition that affects her muscle movements. She uses a walker to get around.
She was heading to a birthday party in the park, but she got trapped in the sand on the way to swings. Danielle says the local Florida parks department confirmed that this park is not fully accessible for all children.
The mom of three has created a change.org petition in hopes of the county improving the park’s accessibility. She is meeting with the lawmakers soon to discuss the best alternative to replacing the sand and bringing the area up to ADA standards.
“This isn’t just about Iris,” said Zukoski. “It’s about other children, too.”
