George Mendonsa died at the age of 95, nearly 74 years after being photographed kissing Greta Zimmer Friedman.
The famous photo captured the two strangers celebrating the surrender of Japan to the U.S. during World War II.
Mendonsa served on a destroyer during the war and was on leave when Japan surrendered.
Friedman died in 2016 at the age of 92.
