Milo, the puppy, is finally taking his first steps, after having surgery to correct disconnected elbow joints that left his paws facing upside down.
Veterinary surgeons at Oklahoma State University put pins in Milo’s elbows to stabilize the joints. Afterwards, the little beagle and coonhound mix spent weeks in a front body splint.
Since then, the pup has been in physical therapy to train him how to correctly sit, lie and walk. The congenital deformity caused him to have an awkward posture, less flexibility and weakened muscles.
University doctors say Milo’s case is only the third they’ve ever seen in their nearly 30 year careers.
