It wouldn't be the first time. Some Social Media/Brand Manager, for one reason or another, tweets out something they weren't supposed to and boom - they're gone. The internet was concerned that we were witnessing another incident last night when Burger King's official twitter sent out this cryptic message:
Strong words. More and more brands are following the lead of accounts like Wendy's or MoonPie who famously allow their online presence to have a personality that is often very candid, but this seemed weird even for that new type of branding.
This morning, we found out that it was just one piece of a brand new marketing campaign, as Burger King is introducing a Whopper made from the beef of cows on a low-methane diet. See also: less cow farts.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, livestock (cow farts) was responsible for 3.9% of U.S. global greenhouse gas emissions in 2018. Thus, Burger King hopes this step will make a positive impact on the environment. They even released a marketing video that features the Yodeling Kid. If you remember him.
2020 is weird.
