I'm Listening: Julia Michaels Shares That Anxiety and Depression Aren’t Her, Just a Part of Her

The 'I'm Listening' broadcast returns on September 23

RADIO.COM's I’m Listening broadcast is returning on Wednesday, September 23. For an evening where artist, athletes and individuals nationwide will join forces for a special two hour event, to showcase that talk has the power to save lives.

The I’m Listening initiative was created to assure you that it’s okay not to be okay. You are not alone, and by sharing stories, and having healthy conversations around the topic of mental health, it helps achieve our goal. For the subject and those who struggle with mental health issues to receive nothing but acceptance and understanding.

Leading up to this years broadcast, we’re chatting with artists and musicians who have been consistently conscious about taking care of their mental state and not afraid to talk about it. Julia Michaels is just one of those artists who speaks up, using her platform and influence to share and have open and honest conversations.

During a sit down with RADIO.COM Julia revealed that she struggles with uncertainty, as well as her anxiety and depression, saying, “those things will always be a part of me… they aren’t me, but they’re a part of me.” Adding that she’s “figured out tools and ways to deal with those things.” Knowing that it’s just a part of her she needs to “learn to get under control,” but “hasn’t quite managed it yet.”

With that said, Julia expressed how grateful she is “to have a lot of people in my life that are really supportive and loving,” and that she doesn’t know if she’d be able to do a lot of the things she does without them. Finishing up her thoughts Julia noted that “having people in your life that are wonderful is good,” and that talking about it is also.

It is so important for us to have open and honest conversations about mental health, now more than ever. Consequently, we encourage you to share your story about your personal mental health journey in advance of the broadcast, of which we will select a few to be shared as a part of this year's show. In addition, throughout the show, listeners will have a chance to call in and share personal stories, as well as speak to mental health professionals.

Join us on Wednesday, September 23 for I’m Listening - an evening filled with support, compassion, and community - right here and on the RADIO.COM app.
