Audacy is proud to announce our fifth annual I’m Listening special happening on Thursday, September 23 at 6PM on all Audacy stations and on the Audacy appI’m Listening is a 365-day-a-year initiative that aims to encourage those who are dealing with mental health issues to understand they are not alone. Once a year we pause on every Audacy station across the country to demonstrate that it’s okay not to be OK.

As we prepare for our 2021 broadcast we are listening back to some of our 2020 all-star guests, whose mental health wisdom has continued to ring true as we surge forward.

When we spoke to I’m Listening alumni, Alanis Morissette, the artist spoke candidly about stress and trauma. Morissette started by inadvertently getting straight to I’m Listening’s core mission when she stated, “we need each other to stay alive.”

Our annual broadcast serves as a connection point for the community that rallies behind speaking openly about the spectrum of topics that span the mental health conversation. We all rely on one another to continue to move the mental wellness conversation forward, making it commonplace in all aspects of life.

Morissette also reflected on her own practices, sharing, “self-care has always been really important to me. I haven’t always been great at it, and I believe in the resilience of our beings. I believe that our birthright is a general sense of well-being….”

The Jagged Little Pill icon also reflected on what she learned during her time in lockdown, realizing that her own psyche is multifaceted. She noted that there were parts of her the loved being home and having downtime with her family, while in other moments she felt “depleted,” and dreaded not being able to travel for her career.

To keep up with the artists that create music that feeds our minds and keeps the I’m Listening initiative powered, check out Audacy’s I’m Listening Mental Health Mix. With tracks from Billie Eilish to Demi Lovato to Pearl Jam, this Exclusive Station keeps your mood in mind. Listen now!

The way Morissette copes is often by talking to the “depressed part” of her mind while also acknowledging the “excited part.” “I ask these parts to talk with me, so it’s this internal dialoguing….for me it’s a really quick process of saying ‘how are you trying to help? What wisdom do you have? What do you need me to do? What action can I take on your behalf?”

Be a part of the conversation, submit your own I'm Listening mental health story. Use your words to continue the conversation around the importance of mental health.
