A bat found in the hallway of an apartment complex near Enfield Park in Plano has tested positive for rabies.
Despite some concerns, Plano animal services director Jamey Cantrell said there is currently no immediate threat to the public.
Cantrell told the Dallas Morning News, "It's one of those diseases that if people take the proper precautions … there's not really any reason to worry about it."
The bat was found on the wall of the apartment hallway, within reach of children, though the bat had no known contact with people or pets.
While the city is not planning on taking any special measures in response, Cantrell does advise residents to be aware of risks from animals that might be acting strangely.
