What’s a good plate of good Texas barbecue without some brisket?

Unfortunately, that’s a reality many of us may have to face as the price of brisket has made it too expensive for some restaurants across Texas to keep serving.

Butter’s BBQ in Sinton recently announced on Facebook due to rising meat prices and declining sales, they would be unable to serve brisket moving forward.

David Page, owner of Hoegemeyer's Barbeque Barn, told WFAA that beef prices have increased “about 40%” over the past two years, and “that is a killer.”

"A lot of restaurants have discontinued some products just because it's so cost prohibitive to keep on the menu," he said.

On top of all this, restaurants are not only being hit by the rising beef prices but rising diesel prices as well. The higher transportation costs are also contributing to higher prices for food.

It’s a delicate balancing act many restaurants are having to face right now: trying to keep menu prices affordable for customers while managing the cost of the products they serve.
