Have you ever wondered just how many trees there are in Dallas? It's not a normal thing to think of, so probably not.
But thanks to the Dallas City Council, and a hefty bill they're footing, we will soon find out.
The Dallas City Council just approved a $6 million contract "for a complete inventory of trees on city property," according to FOX 4.
John Jenkins, director of Dallas' parks department, grew concerned after the Emerald Ash Borer was discovered in the city. With no inventory, it was harder to protect city trees.
If we had this comprehensive tree inventory it would have been much easier to deploy resources," said Jenkins.
The approval of the funds came after a lengthy debate, though Councilwoman Cara Mendelsohn is still not ok with the amount of money being spent.
"In an environment of limited resources, I just have to say it is a little bit shocking that we would be willing to spend over $6 million for a tree inventory," she said.
"This just seems like obscene amount of money."
