An influencer from Dallas has been sentenced to ten years in prison after she hired a couple from Memphis to kill her social media rival from Mississippi.
According to FOX 4, 35-year-old Ashley Grayson ran an internet-based business and gained notoriety and fame online. Prosecutors say that Grayson had a falling out with woman from Mississippi who ran a similar business.
Though the two had never met in person, Grayson contacted a friend from Memphis and asked her and her husband to kill the other business owner. Additionally, Grayson requested the couple also kill her ex-boyfriend, and a Texas woman who made negative comments about her online.
Grayson offered the couple $20,000 for each murder, according to prosecutors.
The couple immediately went to the police with video evidence of the murder-for-hire plot. The case went to court in Memphis last March, where Grayson was eventually found guilty of murder-for-hire.
Grayson received the maximum sentence of 120 months in prison, with no chance of parole since it was a federal crime.
Acting U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee Reagan Fondren said, "This was a 21st-century crime where online feuds and senseless rivalries bled into the real world. The defendant tried to hire someone to murder a woman over things that happened exclusively on the internet."
