For years there has been discussion of a high speed rail between Dallas and Houston that would make travel between the two cities easier than ever before. While many saw this as a pipe dream, in recent years the idea has taken a few steps towards becoming a reality. However, now the bullet train has hit another snag, as the company behind the transportation route reportedly owes over $600,000 in property taxes.
Texas Central has been working on the idea of a bullet train connecting Dallas and Houston since 2009. In 2019, they finally begun construction on the project, though there have been delays ever since. Now, the project could be officially derailed as a number of counties along the expected route have filed an amicus brief before the court for more than $600,000 in property taxes from 2021, according to Houston Press.

The company is already awaiting a decision by the Texas Supreme Court on whether they can continue building through rural cities in Texas. Backers for the project continue to raise money, as they hope the 90-minute trip between Houston and Dallas can still one day become a reality. At this rate, teleportation is starting to look like a more viable option.
