DFW edges out New York in list of top ten "retail therapy" destinations in the US

There's nothing like a little retail therapy, right?  That immediate rush after purchasing something new is exciting; it can help clear most of the troubles you have floating through your head.

A recent study found that people engage in retail therapy as frequently as four times a month, with 66% of us saying that shopping and spending "have the power to significantly change their mood."


By now, we're all probably thinking of a few cities around the nation that we would all love to go on an unlimited shopping spree.  Thankfully, for one of the best metro areas for retail therapy, none of us have to go very far.

You may be thinking of LA, New York, Miami for your shopping destination and those are all fine, but Dallas-Fort Worth was recently named one of the top ten shopping metros in the US, even beating New York!

According to StorageCafe, the DFW area is the eighth-best metro in the US for retail therapy, just edging out New York-Newark-Jersey City which came in on the list at No. 9.

2 – Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell, GA
3 – St. Louis, MO-IL
4 – Denver-Aurora- Lakewood, CO
5 – Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH
6 – Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington, MN-WI
7 – Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, CA
8 – Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX
9 – New York-Newark-Jersey City, NY-NJ-PA
10 – Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL

The study states that the DFW metro area "offers a one-of-a-kind shopping experience and plenty of space to store your retail belongings," an cites Highland Park Village, NorthPark Center, the Shops a Park Lane, and Stonebriar Centre as preeminent shopping destinations.
