It's a good day to be a Dr Pepper fan.
The soda battles have long been dominated by Coca Cola, but Texas' own Dr Pepper has the risen the ranks over the last couple of years to finally beat Pepsi as the second-biggest soda brand in the nation!
According to data from the Wall Street Journal, Coke held 19.18% market share in 2023, but Dr Pepper moved ahead of Pepsi for the second spot with a 8.34% market share to Pepsi's 8.31% share.
The Wall Street Journal cited Dr Pepper's "big marketing investments, novel flavors and a quirk in Dr Pepper's distribution" for their rise, which has allowed the drink "to be on more soda fountains than any other brand."
Dr Pepper was founded in Texas in 1885 and has steadily increased its market share over the last 20 years, growing from the 5.50% range in the early 2000s, which was fifth among major soft drink brands, to its second place standing now.
