It's a call Rangers fans had been waiting for for over 50 years: "It's over! It's over! The Rangers have won the World Series! Ranger fans you're not dreaming!"
The words of Eric Nadel will forever be immortalized in Rangers lore, and one lucky fan now owns Nadel's handwritten script from that wonderful night after they were recently made available at auction.
The script was made available by North Texas-based Heritage Auctions, where they sold Sunday night for a whopping $13,500. The proceeds from the auction are going towards the Suicide and Crisis Center of North Texas.
The script was also paired with Nadel's broadcasting headset which he's used for the last ten years. Nadel wrote the script on hotel stationery before World Series Game 5 in Arizona. The paper is creased from Nadel storing it in his wallet.
Appraisers struggled to put a value on the note and finally settled on an initial price of $2,500. Obviously, the note meant a lot more to Rangers fans than initially thought.
Heritage Auctions sports department production manager Mike Provenzale told WFAA when the auction began, "Two days into bidding, it's already surpassed that. It had a lot more value to Rangers fans than we even thought. We're excited about where the money will go."
Nadel said in an interview with Heritage Auctions, "I wanted to make sure, not having any idea how much money would get raised, that the money was going to a mental health charity that really needed it.
"(The Suicide and Crisis Center of North Texas) always needs money. They need money to run their operation. They need money for their training program. They need money to advertise the fact that they need volunteers to man the crisis lines."
