As much as the new owners of the Dallas Mavericks fight for gambling to be legalized in Texas, it's still a big no-no in the Lone Star State.
Earlier this week four businesses in DeSoto within a mile apart of each other were busted by police officers for allowing illegal gambling through gaming machines known as "8 liners."
According to WFAA, sixty of these machines, along with $17,000 in cash was seized.
The four businesses included:
-Happy Mart – 1100 E. Pleasant Run #133
-Family Mart – 1231 E. Pleasant Run #114
-Daily Food Mart – 900 N. Polk #102
-DeSoto Food Mart – 901 N. Polk #303
They were found in violation of Keeping of a Gambling Place, a Class A Misdemeanor.
DeSoto Police Chief Joe Costa said in a statement, "This is just the first wave of warrant searches conducted against area establishments suspected of illegal gaming, and violators should know that we are monitoring other reports of alleged illegal activity and will be coming for them next.
"This type of activity hurts our community and our residents and will not be tolerated."
