An AMC Theatre in Waco recently shuttered its doors, which leaves the home of Baylor University with only one movie theater left. In the entire city.
The 147,788 residents will all now have to fight for space at the Waco Cinemark XD, though if they’re willing to drive a little, there is an AMC in Burleson, about an hour away.
And that one theater for the city already as issues of its own. According to Chron, in late 2025 guests reported seeing mice during movie screenings. The theater was deemed safe and rodent free in February 2026 though after no evidence of rodents was found for several weeks.
As you can imagine, Waco residents are not too thrilled about all having to share one theater. One person wrote online, “One theater for a growing city? Definitely could use another one... Especially for a different location for those that don't want to or can't travel to the only left now.”
