Parents are always looking for ways to give their child a leg up on the competition, regardless of their age. Many begin looking for ways to educate their children even before they are set to start school. Of course, some parents also just need a way to get some time away from the kids. This is why the city of Arlington has decided to launch a new program, which will allow all 4-year-olds in the area to attend pre-K classes for free.
The Arlington School District recently announced plans to expand pre-K to all four year olds, with a curriculum that implements science, technology, engineering and math. Along with the STEM courses, the students will also receive traditional play-based education as well. The district hopes this plan will help increase kindergarten readiness scores which have fluctuated in recent years.

“We know that early childhood education is critical in a student’s future success, and studies tell us all the time that if you start off early in your education and have a strong experience, that you’ll be set up for success,” said Arlington schools Superintendent Marcelo Cavazos. According to Fort Worth Star Telegram, expansion to universal pre-K has been implemented in a number of districts already, including Fort Worth ISD. Now, Arlington children will have a chance to get a head start, along with giving their parents some much needed time off.
