Owning a Taylor Swift autographed guitar would be a dream come true for millions of Swifties. For this North Texas man, it was a chance to make some sort of statement and go viral on the internet while doing so.
Video swept the internet yesterday of the man smashing a guitar autographed by Taylor Swift with a hammer moments after purchasing it at an auction. The final price the man paid? $4,000!
The auction took place at the Ellis County Wild Game Dinner in Waxahachie Saturday evening.
A spokesperson from the event told WFAA that there was no malice intended with the stunt, but made it pretty clear it may have had something to do with Swift’s endorsement for president.
Ellis County Wild Game spokesperson Craig Meier explained, “It has been surprising to me how big of a deal people are making it out to be. It wasn’t meant to be mean or malicious.
"He was just making a lighthearted statement showing disapproval of people in the entertainment industry trying to influence politics.”
Though the guitar was a complete loss, the money used to purchase it is still good. All of the proceeds for the dinner went to the Future Farmers of America.
