The Texas Hill Country provides a lot that Texas’ major metropolitans just don’t have: scenic views, an escape from the fast-paced hustle and bustle of the city life, as well as a 19-foot long dog sculpture.
Yes, you read that last one correctly.
The town of Buda, about 15 miles south of Austin, recently unveiled their newest landmark, a 19-foot-long, 10-foot-tall and five-foot-wide wiener dog sculpture.
Buda is known as the “Wiener Dog Capital of Texas” after all. No, we had no idea either.
According to Chron, the giant steel dachshund commemorates the Buda Wiener Dog Races, a local tradition dating to 1997, and the Buda Economic Development Corporation’s 25th anniversary.
Buda EDC wrote in the release, "Today, the Buda Economic Development Corporation is celebrating 25 years of growing the local economy with a gift to the whole community: the largest wiener dog in Texas. After all, everything's bigger in Texas, and that includes our dachshunds."
The sculpture is located at Buda City Park (204 San Antonio Street, Buda, TX 78910).
