Being stuck on a plane without any form of entertainment sounds like a nightmare to most. While some airlines offer different forms of entertainment, most turn to the internet to kill time while traveling. Sadly slow internet speeds lead to many passengers waiting for content to load. However, that could soon change as Southwest Airlines is testing out a new high speed internet this month, and they will let passengers try it for free.
Starting May 4, Southwest Airlines will be testing out new Wi-Fi equipment on 40 planes. The test period will run through June 10 as they hope the new system will be able to "handle more simultaneous users, faster speeds and new capabilities." According to Dallas Morning News, several other airlines are currently working on faster internet as well as they look to entice potential travelers.
"This trial will allow customers to stream, browse, and engage on the internet at no cost just like other complimentary services. Our goal is to evaluate how the new hardware improves performance while delivering a reliable internet experience used by a large volume of customers," said vice president of customer experience Tony Roach. Hopefully this makes air travel a little easier to deal with.
