There are many reasons for couples to fight, but the one consistent argument in seemingly every relationship is over something not many would expect; food. According to a recent study, the average American couple will get into 156 fights a year deciding where to eat. Apparently, a difference in food preference is enough to derail any relationship.

According to the study, which asked 2,000 Americans who have been in a relationship about their experience, the average couple will fight three times a week over where to order food from. The issue is such a big deal for some, that two out of five respondents said “food compatibility” is a relationship deal-breaker. Not only are these arguments frequent, but they last a while, as 16% will take 30 minutes or more to decide.

There are a number of reasons these fights start, but the leading response at 32% was about arguing over who will make the food choice. For many, just hearing “what do you want for dinner,” is enough to set them off. For those arguing constantly about food, just know; you’re not alone.
