This weekend, the Baylor Bears travel to Fort Worth to take on the TCU Horned Frogs for their annual matchup. Last year's game was a thrill, and with the rivalry fating back to 1899, both schools decided it was time to give it an official title.
Henceforth, the annual matchup between TCU and Baylor will now be known as the "Bluebonnet Battle."
TCU Student Body President Joe Winick said per CBS News, "This is a rivalry established by students, for students, and acts as a proud tradition that will be carried on by future generations of TCU Horned Frogs and Baylor Bears."
A new trophy will be constructed for the game's winner and will feature a circular battle shield that features logos of both universities and an outline of the State of Texas with bluebonnets on either side.
Baylor head football coach Dave Aranda said, "We're looking forward to continuing our long-standing rivalry with TCU as rivalries bring excitement, history and generations together throughout college football.
"We appreciate the Student Government Associations at both TCU and Baylor for their intentionality in bringing this rivalry together as the Bluebonnet Battle."
The first game in the newly christened Bluebonnet Battle goes down this Saturday at Amon G. Carter Stadium. It will be the 119th time the schools square off; TCU leads the series at 58–53–7.
