Texas is one step away from banning kids from using social media.

House Bill 186, which would require tech companies to verify a user's age when they are creating their social media accounts and penalize social them if they knowingly let children use their platforms, passed a recent vote in the Texas House.

The bill now moves on to the Texas Senate for further consideration.

Author, Rep. Jared Patterson of Frisco, said, "Social media companies don't care about what content they're feeding you and your children.

"Rather, they want you hooked on their content."

According to the Dallas Morning News, users would have to submit government IDs to verify their ages.
