“Football is life.”
Those words were spoken by Cristo Fernandez, one of the breakout stars of the hit Apple TV series Ted Lasso.
Football was life definitely for Fernandez on the screen, and his character Dani Rojas. And off-screen as well, as Fernandez just signed with El Paso Locomotive FC of the USL Championship to play soccer professionally.
Fernandez played soccer until the age of 15 until an injury caused him to focus more on acting. According to NBC DFW, he went through a two-month trial with the team, appearing in a preseason match against New Mexico United.
Fernandez said in a statement, “No matter where life has taken me, the dream of competing professionally never truly left my heart.
“I’m incredibly grateful to El Paso Locomotive FC — the club, coaches, staff, and especially my teammates — for opening the doors and giving me the opportunity to compete from day one.”
