A 27-year-old man from Azle was arrested late last week after police discovered a Molotov cocktail in his car while they were performing a traffic stop.

According to WFAA, the reason for the traffic stop was made unclear by the authorities, but they noticed the driver Murphy Wells "acting suspicious."

As a result, the officers conducted a search of his vehicle where they uncovered the explosive.  Te Tarrant County Fire Marshal's Office, the Fort Worth Fire Department Bomb Squad and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were called to the scene and rendered the device safe.

According to the ATF, Molotov cocktails are considered destructive devices under the National Firearms Act and are illegal to possess.

As such, Wells was arrested and is facing charges of possession of a prohibited weapon.

Sheriff Bill Waybourn said in a press release, "This arrest was the result of excellent police work and attention to detail on the part of the deputy.

"His investigative instincts led to the arrest of someone who could have potentially caused great harm. We commend our deputy for his dedication to keeping the citizens of Tarrant County safe and we appreciate our law enforcement partners for their quick response."
