This week has marked a very special occasion for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, as they’ve been celebrating their inaugural “Fat Squirrel Week."

Taking a cue from Katmai National Park, who for years has been hosting an annual battle of brown bears vying for the title of the fattest bear of the year during its “Fat Bear Week,” the TPWD is now looking for which state park is home to the chunkiest rodent in the Lone Star State.

Texas Parks and Wildlife said in a post on Facebook, “Move over bears… it’s Texas’ turn to showcase the fluffiest, chubbiest SQUIRRELS around!

“This week, follow #TexasFatSquirrels to meet some of the stoutest squirrels in the state as they get ready for winter.”

Final voting for the fattest squirrel in Texas occurs today!
