Thousands of students walked the stage at Texas Tech this weekend for graduation, but there was only walking on four legs.

Makaela Muse earned her bachelor’s degree in animal sciences, and just as in all her classes at Tech, she was accompanied by her service dog, Sadie.

Well, Texas Tech officials didn’t want Sadie to be left out, so she was handed her own rawhide bone “diploma” wrapped in a red bow.

According to KCBD NewsChannel 11, Sadie was originally supposed to only be a “pet.” However, Muse passed out in her very first animal dissections lab, and doctors eventually discovered that she suffered from two rare health conditions.

Muse said, “Basically, between the two of them, my hormones are always going up and down, and that’s primarily her job, is to help me manage that.”

Sadie’s primary job is to help Muse manage her hormones, and she was with her every step of the way as she earned her degree. “She’s seen the good, the bad, and the ugly,” Muse said.

Now, Muse is focusing on applying to veterinary schools and hopes to end up back at Texas Tech. She knows she won’t be alone, though.

“There is no Makaela without Sadie, we’re a packaged deal at this point,” she said.
