The California Highway Patrol is investigating, after what appears to be a driverless Tesla was spotted cruising down Bay Area roadways with a man in the backseat.
The CHP Golden Gate Division posted Saturday on Facebook about the incident, sharing images of a Tesla that looks as though it has an empty driver seat and a man in the backseat.
The Tesla appears to be utilizing the “Full Self-Driving Capability” package, officials said.
The photo looks like it was taken on Interstate 880 or the Bay Bridge toll plaza, but officials did not state exactly where the Tesla was spotted.
The agency received a third-hand report of the incident. CHP officials asked anyone who sees such an “unusual” incident to call 911 immediately.
