Santa Clara County is now in the state's yellow tier of reopening, the third county in the Bay Area to join the least restrictive tier since the winter surge.
Yellow tier restrictions mean bars that don’t offer food service would be allowed to start seating customers indoors, outdoor gatherings of up to 100 people would be allowed and indoor businesses such as gyms and bowling alleys would have higher capacities, among other changes.
San Francisco and San Mateo Counties have previously gone yellow. Santa Cruz County also joined the yellow tier Tuesday.
All other Bay Area counties remain in the orange tier except for Solano, which is still red.
The county tier system as a whole is set to be retired on June 15, when Gov. Gavin Newsom has said California will lift most of its pandemic-related business restrictions.
