Santa Clara police believe the suspects may have broken into the home specifically for the dogs, as they left electronic and other valuables behind, KNTV reported.

At around 1 a.m. on Monday, Misael Rodriguez heard commotion at his front door and went to investigate. "Soon as I open the door, I see four men with handguns pointed at my face. I turned around and ran upstairs and they chased me," he told the news station.

Rodriguez locked himself in an upstairs bathroom and called 911 while the suspects stole his two French bulldogs, Zoe and Dior. "My dogs mean everything to me," he said.

Rodriquez is trying to get the word out about the robbery on social media and around the Santa Clara neighborhood with flyers. He spent $30,000 on Zoe and Dior — two purebred show dogs. He believes this may be the reason the thieves stole them, the station reported.

"I just hope my dogs come back safe," Rodriguez said. A $5,000 reward is being offered for anyone that can help him get his pets back.

Zoe and Dior are the latest French bulldogs to be taken in a string of robberies across the Bay Area. From Oakland to San Jose to San Francisco's Marina District, French bulldog owners have been traumatized by dognappers stealing their pets, often in broad daylight.

The Santa Clara Police Department confirmed to the station that they have opened an investigation into the robbery. KCBS Radio has reached out to the police department for comment, but has not yet heard back.
