The 54-year-old male owner and his certified service dog, Summer, were walking at Waller and Octavia Streets on Monday when they were approached and briefly engaged in conversation with a male stranger.

The suspect suddenly grabbed Summer's harness and fled with the dog onto Market Street, leading to a police investigation.

Police tweeted at 7:33 P.M. on Thursday that Summer had been "located and happily reunited with its owner."

No arrest has been made and the investigation into who took the 5-year-old German Shepherd mix is ongoing.

"We would like to thank the public for their support in the case," authorities said.

No other information, including how and where Summer was located, was immediately released.

Anyone with further information is asked to contact San Francisco’s Park Station.
