HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The total number of people that have tested positive for COVID-19 in Pennsylvania has jumped by 560 on Thursday for a total of 1,687 in the commonwealth.
There are now 133 cases in Allegheny County, 13 in Beaver, 19 in Butler, 10 in Washington, 16 in Westmoreland, one in Armstrong, one in Lawrence, two in Mercer, three in Greene, eight in Fayette, two in Somerset and one in Cambria.
Indiana County also has its first confirmed case of coronavirus for a total of 210 in the Western PA area.
Five new deaths have been reported for a total of 16.
During a press briefing on Thursday, PA Department of Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine broke down the age range of those infected.
"We are seeing the post positive cases in patients that are in the 50 and over age bracket, they make up approximately 46 percent of all cases, but 39 percent of all patients are actually in the 25 to 49 year age bracket so it's very important that younger adults not be complacent about their susceptibility to COVID-19," Said Dr. Levine.
"Our notable increase in cases over the past few days indicate we need everyone to take COVID-19 seriously," Dr. Levine said. "Pennsylvanians have a very important job right now: stay calm, stay home and stay safe. We have seen case counts continue to increase and the best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is to stay home."
16,441 tests have come back negative.
Commercial labs are the primary testing option for most Pennsylvanians so date is not available on the total number of tests pending.
Cases in the commonwealth are now in 48 counties.
