HARRISBURG, Pa. (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) — $8 million will go to communities impacted by job losses in coal industries, including mining, power plants and supply chain operations.
The Appalachian Regional Commission awarded the funds to ten projects that will help affected counties invest in new technologies and resources for businesses and residents.
“We want to provide the same opportunities to all Pennsylvanians regardless of their zip code, and grant programs like this bring us one step closer to that reality,” said Governor Tom Wolf.
“These projects will enable affected regions access to new technology, new resources, and new services that will help improve both the business climate and quality of life, revitalizing communities and creating new possibilities for those who live within them.”
More than $2.5 million will go to Pittsburgh for the Western Pennsylvania Entrepreneur Diversification Fund and the Shale POWER Project.
$20,000 will go toward a feasibility study for a residential building in Lamont Furnace in Fayette County.
