PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) -  On Thursday, State Senator Jim Brewster revealed the procurement of pandemic relief grant money that has been set aside for eight local schools and technical colleges.

The total amount of grant money that will be split and awarded to the eight schools is $658,370.

The following schools will be allotted portions of the grant money:

  • West Mifflin Area School District: $68,750
  • Woodland Hills School District: $76,150
  • A W Beattie Career Center: $100,863
  • Forbes Road Career and Technical Center: $186,856
  • McKeesport Area Tech Center: $35,477
  • Eastern Westmoreland CTC: $32,949
  • Northern Westmoreland CTC: $45,882
  • Central Westmoreland CTC: $111,443

“These emergency funds will help many of these schools remain active and viable as we continue to work our way through the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Brewster said.

“I will continue to seek state support for schools, businesses and workers who were set back by this devastating coronavirus.”

The school districts that will be receiving money will be getting it through the Continuity of Education Equity Grant (CEEG), and the money is meant to help students and programs that would be more likely to feel ripple effects because of COVID-19.

The grants are hoping to keep more avenues open as some schools close down.
