PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Utility crews are steadily restoring power after a destructive wind storm downed trees and power lines.

West Penn Power had about 6,200 customers off the grid late Wednesday morning. First Energy's Todd Meyers tells KDKA Radio...

“We have . . . about 2700 costumers out in both Washington and Westmoreland Counties; those are the two sort of hot spots that make up the bulk of our outages.”

Meyers adds the challenge now is taking care of all of the outages that may only be affecting one or two locations.

“Lots of trees down on the lines, lots of things to fix but only brining back handfuls of costumers at a time. We still have so many locations of outages affecting just maybe one costumer or a handful but lots of long hard work.”

If your neighbor's power is on and yours is not, the problem may be isolated to your individual service wires. If this happens, please report your outage!-- 888-544-4877-- https://t.co/6QZ86YR2NL-- Text OUT to 544487 pic.twitter.com/389fOkEbgD

Total outages in the seven-county Pittsburgh area are about 12,500.

24 hours ago the number was almost 40,000.
