PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – The Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission announced statewide changes coming to this year’s trout season.

Due to COVID-19, there will be one Mentored Youth Trout Day, held on April 11th, and one Statewide Opening Day of trout season that will take place on April 18th. Earlier regional mentored youth and opening days are canceled in 18 southeastern counties.

The PFBC also announced that they will not allow volunteers to assist with the trout stocking this season in order to keep the public safe.

Instead, PFBC staff will be reassigned to help with stocking lakes and streams.

Also new to this season is the option for anglers and boaters to display fishing licenses, launch permit, and boat registrations digitally as proof of possession.

This will help to minimize customers needing to go to stores for their licenses or permits.
