HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Pennsylvania Game Commission is asking people who find babies bunnies alone in a yard to leave them be.
The game commission says it is not uncommon to find baby bunnies, also called kits in your backyard, especially this time of year.
Cottontail rabbits seek mates in March, with most being born between May and June.
Mothers are unable to defend their young and leave their babies in “grassy nests hidden from predators only visiting their young a few times a day to nurse.”
Experts say bunnies should be left along unless they appear visibly injured.
The cottontail rabbit is one of the state’s most popular small game animals.
