HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Pennsylvania Department of Health has announced an additional 980 cases of COVID-19, 234 compared to Thursday.

These new cases bring the total to 65,392 across the state of Pennsylvania.


4,871 of the positive cases have been seen in healthcare workers.

102 additional deaths have also been reported on Thursday.

The total amount of COVID-19 deaths is 4,869 across the commonwealth.

3,234 of the state's total deaths have occurred in residents of nursing or personal care facilities.

There are now 14,113 cases of COVID-19 in residents of long-term care facilities with 2,306 among employees for a total of 16,419 at 570 facilities in 44 counties across the commonwealth.

To date, there have been 303,514 negative tests in Pennsylvania.

Age Breakdown:

  • Nearly 1% are ages 0-4;
  • Nearly 1% are ages 5-12;
  • Nearly 2% are ages 13-18;
  • Nearly 6% are ages 19-24; 
  • Nearly 37% are ages 25-49; 
  • Nearly 26% are ages 50-64; and
  • Nearly 29% are ages 65 or older.

Most of the deaths and hospitalizations have occurred in the 65 and older age group.

"As counties move from red to yellow, we need all Pennsylvanians to continue to follow the social distancing and mitigation efforts in place," Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said. 

"We must continue to protect our most vulnerable Pennsylvanians, which includes our seniors, those with underlying health issues, our healthcare workers and our first responders. I am proud of the work that Pennsylvanians have done so far, but we cannot stop now, we must continue to take the necessary steps to protect ourselves from COVID-19."
