
HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - For the second time this week the number of new COVID-19 cases in Pennsylvania is over 1,000 cases.
On Friday, 1,213 new cases of coronavirus were reported in the commonwealth.
Allegheny County reported 198 new cases on Friday with Philadelphia County reporting 227.
While there are nearly 200 cases in Allegheny County, County Executive Rich Fitzgerald tells KDKA Radio the higher numbers are due to increased testing, with the positivity rate at 8.7 percent, under the 10 percent threshold.
The total number of cases now reported in Pennsylvania since the beginning of the pandemic is 105,571.
The number of tests conducted in the past seven days, July 17 through July 23, is 151,858 with 5,912 people testing positive.
22 additional deaths are being reported across the commonwealth to bring that total number to 7,101.
639 people have had a positive serology test and either COVID-19 symptoms or high risk exposure and are considered probable cases, not confirmed.
Nearly 1 million people have tested negative since March is at 999,377.
Most of the people who have been hospitalized have been 65 or older and most of the state’s deaths have occurred in those 65 and older.
18,991 of the state’s total cases are in those in nursing and person care homes and 3,737 in among employees for a total of 22,728 at 813 facilities across the state.
Of the total number of deaths, 4,844 have occurred in 813 facilities.
About 7,827 of the total number of infections is in health care workers.
