HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA ) - Pennsylvania State Representative Bob Brooks is planning to introduce legislation that would reopen indoor sports and recreation activities.
"Many people exercise by participating in indoor sports and recreation such as fitness, indoor tennis, racquetball, basketball and pickle ball," said Brooks. "I believe we should engage these activities with an eye toward safety."
Brooks' legistation calls for the activities to be permitted to resume as of June 1.
On Friday, much of western Pennsylvania moves into the yellow phase of Governor Tom Wolf's three-color phase plan to reopen the state after the recent shut down due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
The three phases include red (most restrictions), yellow (some restrictions lifted) and green (restrictions lifted, but health guidelines must be followed).
Golf courses and other outdoor activities were permitted to resume on May 1, with social distancing and other restrictions in place.
"Gov. Tom Wolf has lifted restrictions on some recreational facilities such as playing golf," said Brooks. "We should allow indoor recreation to open as well, as long as appropriate health and safety measures are followed."
