PITTSBURGH (KDKA Radio) - Coach Dave Gray is a well-respected local youth sports coach, mentor and inspirational speaker for kids in and around the Pittsburgh Community. On any given day he connects with kids on a live level through sports camp; preschools, elementary or middle school programs or sports birthday parties.
The current environment has changed that for him so he wanted to find a new way to reach his core audience. In addition, Coach Dave says he misses the kids and wants to connect with his people. He has decided to do this with "STORYTELLING with Coach Dave" on Facebook.
"STORYTELLING with Coach Dave" will focus on reading stories, sharing stories from one of his assemblies as a speaker of Play Positive Pittsburgh and even sharing stories from his life while growing up. His first story he shares is “Love is all around Pittsburgh” by children’s author Wendi Silvano.
He plans to continue to share the stories through Facebook each day and asks parents to share these messages with their children because many of them are scared of the unknown right now and this gives them a sense of normalcy. He feels that positive messages from their parents and other people will help kids weather the current changes in their lives. That while they don’t quite understand why they can’t be in school right now – stories can give them positive feelings of hope and love.
He also shared that while group sports cannot meet and playdates are not happening this is an opportunity for parents to get out there with their kids and reconnect.
Coach Dave runs CDG Sports and Play Positive Pittsburgh. Coach Dave also received the honor of being one of Larry's Hometown Heroes in 2016. His mission is to inspire the kids. He’s unable to do that with his programs currently and doesn’t want to be absent from their lives. He says, “I thought if I could do some videos and come into their house, it’s the next best thing to being in front of them.”
