ALTOONA, Pa (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Altoona-based convenience store chain Sheetz is increasing pay for about 17,000 store workers.

Salaries will raise $3 an hour and will be in effect from March 13 through April 23, but the duration of the increase will be re-evaluated as details continue to become clearer with the COVID-19 outbreak.

“Our employees are the heart and soul of Sheetz and their commitment to serve our customers and communities as an essential business during this critical time has been nothing short of extraordinary,” said Travis Sheetz, President & COO of Sheetz, Inc. “This special compensation is just one way to express our gratitude during this difficult time.”

Sheetz is also hiring store employees as they respond to an increase in customer demands.

Anyone looking for employment with Sheetz can apply here.

Sheetz also announced changes to some store operations to help ensure the safety of both customers and employees.
