State Police Report Increase In Gun Sales, Denials

HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The increase in coronavirus cases in Pennsylvania has been followed by a rise in gun sales.

Request for State Police background checks are up 22 percent so far in 2020, 44 percent in the second quarter when the pandemic hit hard.

Background check are triggered when someone tries to purchase a weapon from a dealer.

Denials are also up sharply, nearly doubling in the second quarter.

In PA, “a person commits a felony of the third degree if they make a false oral or written statement on any federal or state agency form or willfully presents false identification that is likely to deceive a firearm seller, licensed dealer, or licensed manufacturer. During the PICS process, individuals may also be identified as having an active warrant for their arrest,” states a release from State Police.
