Two Teens Killed In Lightning Strike While Fishing In Westmoreland County

MOUNT PLEASANT, Pa. (Newsradio 1020 KDKA - Two local teens are dead after a lightning strike at Mammoth Park Lake in Mount Pleasant Thursday afternoon.

Brendan McGowan of North Huntingdon and Kaitlyn Rosensteel of Donora, both 18-years-old, were fishing at the time of the strike.

Westmoreland County Coroner Kenneth Bacha said in a report that people on the scene heard a loud crack and a large flash of light around 4:00 p.m., close to where the teens were fishing.

“Witnesses discovered a large splintered tree and the decedents below it.”

Attempts to revive the teens were unsuccessful and both were declared dead at the scene.
