PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A West Virginia woman was stopped at a security check point by TSA Agents Wednesday at Pittsburgh International Airport when they discovered she had a loaded handgun in her backpack.
The 9mm handgun was loaded with seven bullets and had one it the chamber.
Allegheny County Police confiscated the gun and detained the Maidsville, WV woman for questioning.
It is the seventh gun stopped at Pittsburgh International in 2019. Last year TSA officers caught 34 guns.
According to the TSA, last year 4,239 firearms were discovered in carry-on bags at checkpoints nationwide that averages to about 11.6 firearms per day, approximately a 7 percent increase from 2017.
